Forget throwing a party. According to beloved candle and fragrance house Diptyque, the coolest way to celebrate an anniversary is by unveiling a brand new addition to your existing family of bestselling products. As its iconic candle line turns 60, the brand brings us Les Mondes de Diptyque (which translates as “The Worlds of Diptyque”), a collection of five scented candles, all housed in chic glass flacons that can be refilled once they’ve burned through.

“Conceived as decorative objects, with five olfactory stories from five extraordinary places, the sustainable candle jars were designed to stand the test of time,” explains Amanda Morgan, UK managing director of the brand. “Sixty years after the introduction of our classic candles, this marks a new chapter for Diptyque.”

With a vast fan base that spans celebrities (Victoria Beckham) and royalty (the Duchess of Sussex), a Diptyque candle has long been a cult buy. As much an interiors status symbol as any piece of antique furniture, lighting a deliciously scented Diptyque – from Figuier to Feu de Bois to Baies to my personal favourite, Santal – is a dreamy way to lift your mood, and create the perfect ambiance in your home.

It all started in 1963, when three scents, including Thé (tea), were conjured up by co-founder Desmond Knox-Leet and housed in transparent glass vessels. They were later labelled with the brand’s immediately recognisable, stylistic black alphabet, which seems to dance across the face of each glass jar. Cleverly made using a combination of waxes in varying degrees of thickness and texture, each of the candles (there are nearly 50) are formulated to burn evenly and beautifully.

The new refillable candles are Nymphées Merveilles, La Forêt Rêve, Temple des Mouses, La Vallée du Temps and Terres Blondes. Each one was inspired by – and evokes – a different world, whether the Villa Borromeo Visconti near Milan (Nymphées Merveilles), or a Japanese temple in Kyoto (Temple des Mouses). Prepare to be transported, by way of your nose, to pastures new.

Each one arrives in a curvaceous and colourful oval glass vessel that has been blown into three stacked tiers. Replacing labels with engraving, they are seriously aesthetically pleasing and earth-friendly, which makes them a front-runner to become your next candle obsession.
